Updates to Star Wars Saga with Blu Release?

We're just mere weeks away from the September 16 Star Wars saga blu-ray release and rumors have started to fly that there will be changes to the movies. Yes, again.

Slashfilm reported on Tuesday that the movies would indeed be changing again, but later posted an update from Bleeding Cool that refuted their earlier assertion that there would be big changes. You know ... things like the addition of Jabba in New Hope, the extended wampa scene in Empire and the god-awful "Jedi Rocks" scene in Jedi. They did however stick with their claim that the certain elements of the films would be "cleaned up," if you will. This includes making the lightsabers consistent in their appearance throughout all six flicks and removing a puppeteer's arm from a shot of the wampa. See? To me that's all good stuff.

Another, more significant, change that I really hope they make is something that's been rumored for a long time: the addition of a CGI Yoda in Phantom Menace. I am all for this. The Yoda puppet in TPM is atrocious. It looks nothing like the original Yoda puppet. OK...it's green, has big ears and it's short, so there are some similarities, but it's just not right. Right?

The DVD release of Revenge of the Sith featured a scene from TPM with CGI Yoda swapped in, confirming the speculation that Lucasfilm was at least playing with it. Maybe, they've done it for the 3-D release next year or maybe they've done it for this. ComicBookMovie.com posted the same scene this week claiming it's "confirmed" for the blu-ray release and many other sites are claiming the same thing.

Hope so I do. Promising it sounds.

Update: Here's my follow-up article - The Good, the Bad and the Whatever, featuring a plea to George Lucas!
